I think the question should be: Was the coat made with just the kerfa
of the animal, so that the animal need not have been killed, or was it
made with the pilka of the animal, in which case the animal had to be
killed?

If the coat was made with just the kerfa, then it was a sunla kosta,
(or sirsunla kosta). If it was made with the pilka, then it was a skapi
kosta (or kreskapi kosta).
