I'm really liking this idea. Certainly easier to make a start on an emacs mode than a whole editor from scratch in language-of-your-choice. Even *IF* the goal is to make a standalone editor from the ground up, I'd say an emacs major-mode is a worthwhile initial goal. ~mark
