The word "libertarian" was first used on the Left - I believe it came from the Spanish Anarchists. Chomsky usually describes himself as a "libertarian socialist" and, occasionally, as an "anarchist". I used to describe myself as an "anarchist" but now prefer "libertarian socialist" (on the rare occasions I describe myself as anything) since I don't like the absolutism "anarchism" implies. There again, most of my old anarchist friends would probably describe me as a liberal wuss. I also have occasional lapses into technocratic elitism, but I try to restrain myself ;-) > There is a Daniel Dennett article called "Giving Libertarians What > They Want", which uses "libertarian" in the sense "believer in > free will" (!) Hmm, so all those Catholics are really libertarians, then?? All shows the need for a logical, unambiguous language ;-) Anyway, this is getting _really_ off-topic, so I'll shut up (for the time being) co'o mi'e robin.
