As to a paperclip, it is a sort of spring too. There are coil springs and leaf springs, so why not bent-back-to-hold-things springs? There's no rule that says that a Lojban word has to have the same semantic range as an English word. Lojban and English don't even divide the major parts of speech the same way. Pierre
