It isn't required, but it isn't entirely clear how it could work. If the President is not on the Board, it becomes an obvious question of "why not?" > I note first that some past > presidents have not exercised much visible in-front-of-the-scenes > leadership. If the Board wants such a president, it can have same. I myself have had both visible periods and non-visible ones. It has been my sense that the community wants someone more visible than I have been. There has been a lack of clear community leadership, especially since Robin started to burn out in his multiple roles. I do think that a President, however visible, needs to be more promptly attentive to business than I have been. This past meeting has been an embarrassment, because I was constantly tuning out for several days at a time. > So if it's okay to treat the role as purely formal then it doesn't really matter who holds it. We've had a couple of years where the President did nothing other than chair meetings, but in those years nothing much got done. > But if the president/vice-president should actively lead, should be on > the board, and should not be you or the Secretary or Treasurer The first two questions are pretty much up to the Board members as to what they want (and what they want LLG to be). Perhaps we need to settle on a vision statement in order to choose a President consistent with said vision. The one I wrote up envisions that between the President and VP there would be more active leadership than there has been, and that is what I think we need. But maybe we can't get that with the people who are available. It has generally been presumed that the different offices need to be held by different people. However, for our first dozen years, I was President and Nora was Secretary/Treasurer, but I did both jobs except for producing meeting minutes. Doing so the way I thought the jobs should be done became too much work once CLL came out, in part because my work habits are not diligent enough to do bookkeeping. > then I am at a loss: I see no suitable candidates among me, Craig, Ali, Ark, Timo. It is partly because I am not sure anyone else is up to taking on responsibility for the President job all-at-once that I have suggested that I continue as President while someone serves as VP and President-in-training. I don't want the organization to fall apart if I am again incapacitated, or simply gone, so we need some type of transition to an organization that does not depend on lojbab for its continued existence. (I've also worked better when I had an equally active partner, but I think that is a secondary matter to my getting old and somewhat infirm). lojbab _______________________________________________ llg-board mailing list llg-board@lojban.org http://mail.lojban.org/mailman/listinfo/llg-board
