Reading lojban text is not something I can do while half asleep as I have been most of the last week. The Board meeting has to move on. I think the status is that I am the only, if reluctant, candidate for President. Curtis and Karen are both candidates for Vice President. mukti is the only candidate for Secretary and Treasurer. As Karen indicated, she and I know each other personally, and she attended LogFests and annual meetings here in Fairfax during most of the 1990s when they were being physically held here. She did not significantly use Lojban, but at that point almost no one did. I don't know Curtis, and haven't worked with him, so I cannot say much about his qualifications. I must admit, however, that his last posting seems to indicate a leaning towards continuing the process of innovative language design rather than focusing on documenting the language that we have and moving to the phase of "letting usage decide" whether that is good enough. And that is not something I can personally support. However, my personal opinion and support matters less and less, when Lojban is not my primary focus, and others are doing far more than me with and for the language. For the short term, I think it doesn't matter much who is Vice President, so long as I can do the job as President. What is important is that the person be qualified and willing to step in when I am not doing what needs to be done as President. Curtis did speak up last week when I was too long silent, and that is appreciated. After talking with mukti, I think the best approach is to largely moot the choice. Whoever eventually takes over for me as president needs to be able to speak to the community and to get things done, as I haven't been doing so well of late. So regardless of who is elected Vice President, I am going to ask both Curtis and Karen to act on my behalf in the next few months in order to deal with some of the issues we are facing. I will try to let them decide between them how best to divide their efforts, based on their skills and interests. The results may inform the other Board members for future officer elections. LLG has in the past delegated work and decision-making to committees, most of which never seem even to get formed and meet, much less accomplish anything. I am going to try delegating issues to specific people (i.e the two VP candidates) and let them show me and everyone else how they tackle getting them resolved and how well they do. That way, when a new President gets elected, they will have a track record showing what they can and will do. This may be through IRC discussions, or discussions on social media (Facebook, or perhaps Reddit or ... I dunno much about social media these days), or even just email cajoling of key individuals - that will be up to them. They can work together or separately; it matters not to me. But it probably matters to them and to you that they be able to move the organizational aspects of Lojban forward. lojbab _______________________________________________ llg-board mailing list llg-board@lojban.org http://mail.lojban.org/mailman/listinfo/llg-board
