The intent is that this work will naturally serve as training in community leadership so that one or both will be (and feel) qualified to take over as President, so that I can finally retire. I had a few ideas for specific tasks that I want them to undertake first, but circumstances have (as they often will) overtaken my ideas. There have been two threads in the last several days on Lojban List that are relevant. "taking action" and "one poem a week" In those threads, Lojbanists in the community have effectively ASKED for someone to take leadership of specific activities that they are interested in. So rather than work on my ideas, let us start with the ideas that the community is talking about. I eventually want to delegate different tasks and topics to each of you, but it seems critical that we not let this opportunity go. So I would like BOTH of you to 1)read the threads on those subject lines, 2) introduce yourselves, 3) indicate what you think LLG could do to help on the issues that are raised, and ideally find at least one person besides yourself for each activity, so that progress can be made even if one of you is unable to participate for a while, and 4) report back to the Board within a couple of weeks indicating what is happening as a result of all this. I have posted on those threads indicating that you two are being assigned to coordinate outreach on these initiatives. My post was as follows: --------------------------------------- > LLG, the Lojban community organization, is attempting to get itself > reactivated. Alas, for several years it was dependent on one person, > Robin Powell, who ran the website but also ran byfy and was doing the > revision for CLL (the red book). > > Volunteerism dried up, and we didn't have anyone to act on > suggestions like the above. The details have to be discussed, and I > will urge the two outreachers to lead discussion on that topic. > > I urge people to offer their ideas, and more importantly their > commitment to act in support of ideas that are implemented. 99% of the > ideas proposed in the last several years have died simply because the > person attempting to lead the effort got zero volunteer response to help > in implementing them. -------------------------------------- So please, both of you, take it from there. Post to me or to the Board as needed. I will suggest that there should be some corner on the LLG home page set up for such projects (or a link to a single page), listing the projects, important URLs, and the name/email of the person leading the effort on that project. Each listed project should indicate what activities we would like volunteers for, and should be regularly updated with progress, so that people know something is actually happening. I know nothing about modifying the web pages. You can decide between you how this gets done. mukti has the authority to approve changes to the web pages. gleki has experience in actually implementing changes (but others may also have that skill). So you'll have to agree on who is to take action on making the changes. If for some reason there is dispute over who is to do what, then bring the issue to me for resolution, but it would be better if you can resolves such issues without me. I expect that we will all learn something from this exercise, which will hopefully teach us how to go about this job of community outreach, and without lojbab actively involved and micromanaging things. ------------- Questions, and any suggestions from other Board members, are welcome, and are in order. lojbab _______________________________________________ llg-board mailing list llg-board@lojban.org http://mail.lojban.org/mailman/listinfo/llg-board
