I'll second, for discussion purposes. I don't see a need necessarily to postpone to the general meeting. But the poll of the community at large is needed to convince me that the community supports a change/addition and in particular supports THIS proposal. Frankly I have no doubt that Matt can effectively sell his proposal to the community, and while I'd like to see a choice, I don't expect there to be a meaningful one because Matt is a professional who seems to know his business, and no one else is likely to be able to do something comparable using avocational skills. But I require that the proposal *be* sold to the community (and not just to the Board), and that the community weigh in using some sort of vote-over-time, because the original logo was adopted by the community and that sets a precedent as to what level should decide issues that are ultimately symbolic of the community. It also served as an issue to get people involved and interested in an aspect that did not require competence and/or confidence in one's language use. Which reminds me that there are three things that are subject to abstract representation, BTW: LLG itself as an organization, Lojban as a language and language project, and the Lojban community. A proposal that has three somewhat related symbols associated with each of the three levels of abstract representation might win especial preference. Since we have two symbols, the existing logo and Matt's proposal, deciding which they stand for, and devising a third to represent the remaining concept would be in order (this is mostly a suggestion for Matt to consider). There is a potential fourth thing to be represented - the publication Ju'i Lobypli that Matt is (hopefully) reviving. It needs a masthead, and could in theory uses symbols separate from the others. That decision, I think, should be up to Matt or whoever is editor of said publication. As such, I have no objection to Matt using his logotype in the upcoming LogFest unofficially. lojbab
