How much bitching should we be doing here? The bitching is already in progress. I didn't wait, as soon as Matt indicated there were problems. I've asked Nora's brother to intercede (he is an officer of the PSFS, which is the parent organization of Philcon, and thus ex-officio on the Philcon committee though he is not directly involved in organizing it). Matt is providing him details of our situation, which will be presented at the last Philcon committee meeting Sunday, to see what can be done. Our group this year is sufficiently large that Art thinks that they will make serious efforts to try to work something out. But it may be too late, with too many constraints, to make a difference. There have been some organizational screwups (different ones from last year - a lot of people making decisions without talking to other people from the sound of it), and then the hotel at the last minute canceled a large chunk of space for one of the two days, that the con committee thought was contracted to them, which has fouled up an already-bad situation. Just for information, Nora and I will be there, on Friday this time, but were NOT able to get rooms at the Sheraton, and our hotel room is half a mile away (at the Marriott, which is where the con was at last year). The entire center city/convention area is apparently booked solid, and the Sheraton has been sold out on Saturday for a couple of weeks now (they have a couple of rooms for Friday night only, but other hotels are charging so much for Saturday night that it is cheaper to stay two nights at the Marriott than one night at the Sheraton and one at the Marriott, even with the convention discount for the one night). Either there is a major event competing for space, or Philcon is having an amazing turnout this year. lojbab
