If you want it for either one or two days, Philcon will pay half. Philcon will even pay the $30/day for internet access from the room." I make a motion that we accept this expenditure to rent the Junior Suite for one night, Saturday night. When the convention is over, I will make a decision about my intention to ever attend or organize jbonunsla at Philcon again, as opposed to giving us a royal treatment at my own convention in Detroit, a city where there is an active local Lojban community that Philadelphia lacks. I have wondered throughout this experience why I am not doing this in a venue where I, as Head of Programming, can control it with meticulous detail, grant free admissions to Lojban's founders and architects, and give my friends dedicated function space, power, internet, curious onlookers, everything they could want in a Lojban Festival. The answer is simple: Bob and Nora LeChevalier and John Woldemar Cowan are Lojban's only celebrities and they go to Philcon. If Philcon treats us with neglect and contempt, having a lock on our Guests of Honor is the only remaining card it holds. If I decide that, it would be with great regret to lose them, but depending on what happens at Philcon, it could be the responsible thing to do. To illustrate the point, I could tell you quite a moral parable about the Anime convention I'm sitting in at this moment... but that would be going into too much detail. I am not angry at Philcon, because as an event organizer I sympathize with what they're going through. But I also feel as an event organizer, when I convince people that they should go to the expense and effort to attend something, I have a responsibility to be evaluate well and be a reliable recommender. It remains to be seen what I will do. -Eppcott
