Then all three documents, in .doc, .html > and .pdf can jointly serve as the new masters. Unfortunately, I can't agree. The trouble is that the master editable source is a .doc file, a binary and proprietary format. BTW, is it a Word 6.0 .doc file or a Word 97 and up .doc file? They are different and incompatible. What is more, Microsoft doesn't have a good record of supporting old formats in new applications; though the Word 97 format is still current, it might not be in the next (2010) release of Word. The community edition uses a corrected version of the posted chapter-by-chapter HTML format as the editable master. It can be edited with any HTML editor or by hand with equal ease, and its format is standardized by W3C and ISO. From it, we have generated (or trivially can generate): 6 x 9 PDF, letter-size PDF, A4 PDF single-page HTML with internal links Open Document Format (an ISO standard) Word 97 .doc format, Word 2007 XML format > I still think that we are obliged to generate change pages for any > hardcopy editions that we sell, but I think I know how to do that.
