I long thought that our membership and participation would increase even more, if prospective Lojbanists were introduced to the personalities involved, by more than just a list of names on the wiki. At first I was dismissive of the idea of friend lists in a strictly-Lojbanic social network. After all, we all know each other. But actually, that's not true. For instance, there was a tremendous influx of new Lojbanists during the year that I was off chairing Penguicon. Who knows how many lurkers there had been before that? A social network would encourage us to introduce ourselves to each other. The neatest thing about a Lojban social network would be if the software would allow profile badges to be given by the admin. Badges would indicate which levels of testing the person has passed, offices they hold, and whether or not they are a donor to the LLG. Best of all, it can encourage Lojban translation of one's own profile. Successful sites such as LinkedIn and OKCupid show progress bars for how complete your profile is. It turns out this feature hooks onto the parts of our brain that is triggered when playing a game, and strongly encourages completion. Ours could include Lojban translation of each field in one's profile, including the essay Q&A's. -Eppcott On Wed, Oct 7, 2009 at 3:58 PM, Robert LeChevalier wrote: > Just had someone from Toronto Canada stop by and buy a CLL with cash.
