I think this house was actually in one of the lighter hit areas. But for the first time I know of in the 27 years I have lived in this house, it seems that we had some seepage into the basement through an underground wall. Briefly, part of our storage room got up to an inch deep, though it drained or dried up by the next day. We were lucky (some people's houses ended up under several feet of water, and some cars were swept away by the floods, but I live on a hill). Damage was minor. But it looks like the bottom of one box of CLL books got damp, and the 2-3 books on the bottom of that box are minorly damaged (slightly warped covers, and I think some discoloration on the edges of one book). They are still quite usable but should not be sold. I am suggesting that I include these among the several books we are sending to the Texas Lojban class for free. Some amount of the backstock of old paper copies of word lists, old JLs, etc was also damaged. (I still have a couple of boxes of such stuff, even though no one has ordered anything printed for years). I'll have to go through the boxes to see how much needs to be discarded, but it will be only a small fraction. It could be that the board feels that there is no reason for me to keep this printed stock any longer, beyond a couple of copies for archival purposes. I am ambivalent on the question - I hate to throw out possibly useful stuff which is not really obsolete, but I wonder whether anyone will actually ever find a use. Volumewise these large boxes together probably take up the space of 4-5 book boxes or around 80 books. Opinions on the matter are welcome. -- Bob LeChevalier lojbab@lojban.org www.lojban.org President and Founder, The Logical Language Group, Inc.
