The meeting will be in recess after this message, but I am going to (finally) trigger the voting for the Board, and people may cast their votes during the recess. Because of the recess, I will allow extra time for voting. John Cowan, our Parliamentarian, who has resigned as a member, but is still on the list, will serve as independent adjudicator/counter of votes. >To summarize the current business, the Board of Directors > election, which opened on December 16, appears to have attracted > nine volunteers: > > Arkadii Balandin > Craig B. However, as far as I know, I am the only candidate residing in Virginia, which complicates matters. There has only once in the past been more than 7 candidates. In that election, I believe that my election as Virginia representative was handled separately, but I don't remember the details (and haven't been able to find them, which has been one reason for the delay). I don't think that we had more than 7 on the Board including me that year. We have held a secret ballot only once, and could probably do so again; but John Cowan believes that an open ballot will serve. The way we will handle it, if there is no objection, is as follows: The voting period will commence immediately, and will continue until 3 days after the end of the recess, and thus until the end of the day 12/31. If everyone has voted before then, I may end the voting early (but not before the 29th). I count 24 members currently attending (Paul Swift apparently did not get his list subscription fixed). Each member may vote once, during the voting period. If someone votes more than once, John Cowan will adjudicate. Members may vote for up to seven from the list above, including me. Post your choices in a message to the list. You can make life easy for John by putting "Board Ballot" for something similar in the subject line. As noted, the top three vote-getters will be elected. In addition, up to four additional Directors can be elected if they get a majority of votes from those casting ballots. If I don't qualify as a Board member in the above vote, there will have to be a second vote to either add me or someone else who resides in Virginia, or something else. But in a contested election, I would rather know that people actually want me to be among the Board members. If there is objection to these procedures, then the vote is cancelled, and we would discuss alternative procedures when the meeting resumes (hopefully on the 29th). ----------------- Barring such objection (please raise a point of order if you object), the meeting is in recess until at least the 29th, except for the casting of votes to this list. Open discussion is permitted during the recess. lopjbab _______________________________________________ Llg-members mailing list Llg-members@lojban.org http://mail.lojban.org/mailman/listinfo/llg-members
