People have been making decks of flashcards in Anki, > Memrise and what preceded them for a long time. From what I understand, they are asking us to set up some sort of gathering wherein they can alpha-test their system with multiple users. If the meeting is in the US, they presumably have to fly someone over here to run the test, and possibly aiding travel costs for Lojbanists who attended, and thus are talking about spending fair amount of money. I could not justifiably offer any support, unless I had the sense that the community was willing and interested in actually supporting this test. I could be wrong about this, if that is not what you understood. > We will need to make call for contribution in every possible > community. > La gleki can make contact with communities in Russia. > I can do it with communities in PRC and those in Japan. > A community in HongKong/Taiwan is very open to the rest of the > world, > and everyone has access to it. > Possibly there are communities in Pakistan. I think guskant was talking about some sort of edited or curated website (which might have a printable form, but that isn't the main thing). The important thing is to give different isolated Lojban communities a means of informing and possibly interacting. The mailing list could be used for this, but a website is durable and would be focused on the specific goal of cross-pollination between groups that otherwise are not currently interacting, and possibly not even aware that the others exist. If I were to travel to Russia, it might be nice if I could find the Lojbanists there and meet them. If we are choosing a location for a LogFest, it would be nice to contact the communities of Lojbanists located near the meeting place. At one time, I did this latter function myself using the snail mail addresses I had collected from the community, so I had some 30+ people to contact in the San Francisco area when I traveled there on personal business. No doubt that number could be doubled if we had kept up the data. But people are unlikely to be interested in geographical groups, unless they have some function in themselves, which could include local face-to-face meet-ups for learning and using the language. There also might be groups organized around a subject-area. translation of literature into Lojban, development of artificial intelligence tools using Lojban, etc. But right now most important are groupings of Lojbanists who have native languages other than English, and hence have little opportunity to connect to the English speaking Lojban world that dominates the mailing lists. ------------------- Just for the record, there having been discussion, New Business will continue at least until there have been 3 days with nothing posted. lojbab _______________________________________________ Llg-members mailing list Llg-members@lojban.org http://mail.lojban.org/mailman/listinfo/llg-members
