In response to the following I wonder what the possibility is of not only having such sorry explanations, but having them refer to similar ideas in several other languages. For example, have an explanation in English such add that given by Gleki, and then something similar referring to concepts or parts of speech in another language such as preterito in Spanish when discussing types of past tense. This extra bit could be in the other language or English. By doing so we then step a bit beyond the current English bias and expand the understanding of readers, both those who speak English as a first language and those who speak something else as a first language.
