Or, one disagrees and two agree, depending on your point

By "natural first choice" I meant that given that the metaphor
"page" is used in English, and given that "page" is the keyword
for {papri}, then {papri} is the natural first choice to examine
as a possible translation. I don't claim that it is necessarily 
the most natural metaphor to use. I don't think it is natural in 
that latter sense, just apt enough. In order to change the 
original metaphor, the obvious first choice has to be rather
bad, and the alternative has to be noticeably better.

OK with me, but I would like the original question answered
(if it has an answer): What is the meaning of square brackets
as used in the gi'uste?

For example:

karni: x1 is a journal/periodical/magazine/[newspaper] 
with content x2 published by x3 for audience x4

What makes "newspaper" be in square brackets? I though
I remembered Lojbab saying at some point that things in
square brackets were intended to have less prescriptive 
force than the rest, but I'm not quite sure.
