My experience with volunteer organizations is that the worst thing that can result from accepting nominations to things (whether they be boards, committees, memberships, etc.) is that I will not be voted into said entity, or that I will be removed from it. It's very low-risk. It's helpful when I do work or have any qualifications, but not necessary. I often did valuable things, and often turned out to be quite qualified, and hopefully that will be the case here. But that is discovered after the fact. There's nothing to lose and something to gain, since the alternative to me accepting nominations is usually that no one will. I illustrated this with a little story about my experience on several Boards of Directors. I'm sorry that my mentioning the word "Board of Directors" distracted you from the point of the illustration, but it's a lesson applicable to any such entity. By the way, on the topic of volunteerism, let me take this opportunity to thank you for all you do for the Lojban community. I admire it very much. -epkat
