I don't remember what worked for me learning Lojban, but for other language= s I=20 learned in written form, reading a book which I also had in a language I kn= ow=20 already works well. Try the Lojban translation of Alice or remod's kid book= s. Also try making sentences with words you recognize parts of. I speak Spanis= h=20 and some Russian, so some Lojban words are obvious or easy to=20 remember: "vajni" is straight Russian, "vensa" is Russian with=20 metathesis, "midju" is pretty obvious from English, Spanish, and Russian (a= ll=20 of which are cognates). "datka" is from English "duck", Spanish "pato" (and= =20 its Arabic source), and Russian "=D1=83=D1=82=D0=BA=D0=B0". "gunse" is from= at least=20 English "goose", Spanish "ganso", and Russian "=D0=B3=D1=83=D1=81=D1=8C", w= hich are related, and=20 go back to PIE, though some borrowing happened. So you can say "lo vensa cu= =20 vajni lo datka .e lo gunse". > I know a technique espoused by some educators is to give things a > pneumonic, such as preti --> "[vous =C3=AAtes] pr=C3=AAt?" Which is a > question... But this seems like heresy for the spirit of lojban. That's "bredi", not "preti" (which is partly from Spanish "pregunta", but t= hat=20 lacks a French cognate). Another thing to try is memorizing commonly-used phrases like "ko frati le= =20 fonxa". (Not that I use that one; I live alone.) Pierre --=20 Don't buy a French car in Holland. It may be a citroen. --=20 You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "= Lojban Beginners" group.
