Lojban has six recognized vowels: =93a=94, =93e=94, =93i=94,= =93o=94, =93u=94 and =93y=94.=20 The first five are roughly pronounced as =93a=94 as in =93father=94, =93e= =94 as in=20 =93let=94, =93i=94 as in =93machine=94, =93o=94 as in =93dome=94 and =93u= =94 as in =93flute=94. =93y=94=20 is pronounced as the sound called =93schwa=94, that is, as the unstressed= =20 =93a=94 as in =93about=94 or =93around=94.

Twelve consonants in Lojban are pronounced more or less as their=20 counterparts are in English: =93b=94, =93d=94, =93f=94, =93k=94, =93l=94, = =93m=94, =93n=94, =93p=94,=20 =93r=94, =93t=94, =93v=94 and =93z=94. The letter =93c=94, on the other han= d is pronounced=20 as the =93sh=94 in =93hush=94, while =93j=94 is its voiced counterpart, the= sound of the =93s=94 in =93pleasure=94. =93g=94 is always pronounced as it is in = =93gift=94,=20 never as in =93giant=94. =93s=94 is as in =93sell=94, never as in =93rose= =94. The sound=20 of =93x=94 is not found in English in normal words. It is found as =93ch=94= in=20 Scottish =93loch=94, as =93j=94 in Spanish =93junta=94, and as =93ch=94 in = German=20 =93Bach=94; it also appears in the English interjection =93yecchh!=94. It g= ets=20 easier to say as you practice it. The letter =93r=94 can be trilled, but=20 doesn=92t have to be.

The Lojban diphthongs =93ai=94, =93ei=94, =93oi=94, and =93au=94 are pro= nounced much=20 as in the English words =93sigh=94, =93say=94, =93boy=94, and =93how=94. Ot= her Lojban=20 diphthongs begin with an =93i=94 pronounced like English =93y=94 (for examp= le,=20 =93io=94 is pronounced =93yo=94) or else with a =93u=94 pronounced like Eng= lish =93w=94=20 (for example, =93ua=94 is pronounced =93wa=94).

All Lojban words are pronounced as they are spelled: there ar= e no silent letters.

With that in mind, these are the skills and software that are required to d= o this job:

You must be able to recognize a gismu from it's pronunciation. This= =20 means that you must be able to identify and type the word solely from=20 the audio. It is possible that there are more of both unrecorded and badly=20 recorded words (badly recorded being words that are unidentifiable for=20 any reason). If you encounter either in the course of your job, you must be able to contact Lindar, likely preferably via email, to inform him=20 of these words so that he can submit new recordings. In the case of a=20 word or three, preferably to yourself. In the case of a chunk's worth o= f words, preferably to me so I can add the recording to the chunk list=20 for claimage.

You must know how to collect a group of files into an archive. It does = not matter if you use .zip, .rar, .7z, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz

Finally, you must be willing to sacrifice some of your free time to do the actual=20 job. These last two are in my opinion no-brainers.

If = you meet these criteria, please go to http://tinyurl.com/gacsp-signup, claim one or = more chunks and type your name into the sign up field so everyone else=20 knows you've claimed that chunk, and follow the download link to=20 download your chunk in mp3 format.

There are 11 chunks total.=20 Each chunk is ~6 minutes of audio, which based on my rather basic math=20 should be ~100 gismu in each chunk.

When you have completed your chunk, place all the files into an=20 archive and email them to me. Then, if you like, grab another chunk. If=20 you don't like, go do something else.

I don't know how good = of an incentive this is, but you should know that this audio, once it's= been pulled apart into a usable format (the goal of this project), it will= be the audio for the various learning programs currently in existence and = probably for future ones as well. This means the current lessons on Anki an= d Memrise specifically, and more generally any other places where someone f= eels inclined to upload audio for how to pronounce the gismu.
