Don't overlook the power of {zo'e}. {.i= zo'e citka lo plise} (or, equivalently and marginally more idiomatically, = {.i citka lo plise}) is perfectly fine, and leaves who is eating the apple = as someone vague, but either unimportant or obvious from context.
