Actually, it is just one sumti. {le ci} on its own is not a sumti. "The three" would be {le ci da}. (Maybe you were thinking of {li ci}, the number three.) {le ci le gerku} is "the three of the dogs": I have some dogs (or things I call dogs) in mind, and out of them I have also three in particular in mind. Not something one would use very frequently, but possible. The other combinations are also not much used, but possible. {lo ci le gerku} is three of the dogs, but not necessarily three specific ones that I have in mind. {lo ci lo gerku} is just three dogs. Indistinguishable from {lo ci gerku} if we don't require the inner quantifier to be all the dogs that there are in the world. {le ci lo gerku} is the three dogs I have in mind.
