Think of {lo dunda}, where > {dunda} is the selbri, {le te preti}, where {te preti} is the > selbri, {la ranjit.} where {ranjit.} is the selbri etc. The way I have understood all of this is this: in {lo dunda}, {dunda} is not a sumti, your sumti is the x1 of {dunda} which is the giver. In {le te preti} the sumti is the x3 of {preti}, that is, {te} makes the place conversion and then {le} takes the x3 of preti as the sumti now converted to be placed in the normal x1 place.
