What you want is more like {.e'u ma'a carna fi le berti pu lo nu da'i janli le dertu} "...before the possibly unrealized event of hitting the ground". Or you could say {.e'u ma'a carna fi le berti tezu'e lonu na janli le dertu} "...so that we don't hit the ground". Pierre
