If I am not mistaken (and I probably am, I'm only a novice, not lo jbijbejbo) JA cmavo (ja, je, and so forth) can only be used between terms in a tanru, whereas JOI can be used there, or between sumti. (There are probably other subtleties that I am missing, but I think that's one difference). --gejyspa -----Original Message----- From: lojban-beginners-bounce@lojban.org [mailto:lojban-beginners-bounce@lojban.org] On Behalf Of Pierre Abbat Sent: Thursday, January 18, 2007 6:47 PM To: lojban-beginners@lojban.org Subject: [lojban-beginners] Re: FW: quantified number sumti, fences, and meshes On Thursday 18 January 2007 17:19, Alex Martini wrote: > no'i Can someone explain the difference between JOI and JA ? {le ci grana cu mitre re li re .e li ci} means that there are three rods, and the first rod is 2 meters long (repeating it has no effect on the logic) and 3 meters long, and so are the other two. They can't all have two different lengths at once, so it's false. If they were boxes, they would be 2*2 meters at the base and 3 m high. {...li re .a li ci} would mean that they all measure 2 or 3, giving no indication that at least one of them is 2 or at least one is 3. phma
