I'd be wary of putting out audio materials that might get new speakers into the habit of pronouncing {e} like {ei}. Matt's own {re} sounded great to me. Also re vowel length, I personally try to keep my {a} long to avoid confusion with {y}, but maybe that's just a peculiarity of my accent (ie. perhaps in other accents, a short {a} sounds nothing like {y}).
