If you want to use a symbol in a sentence, I think it should go where the word would, that is, *before* the number, and should stand for {pitki'otre [be] [li]}, with the cmavo understood as needed. As some symbols are also well-formed words (there's no one named {km}, but it is valid), they should be marked with a hyphen (the dot already being used for a pause). I'm taking statics, and one quantity (second moment of an area) used in statics is expressed in *quartic* millimeters. For that I'd say {vontefmiltre}. mu'omi'e pier.
