Let me clarify. When I read through chapter 10 I was surprised to find them using "+bo" as a kind of terminator when it's not really a cmavo unto itself but almost like a suffix like english uses "-ed", "-ing", etc... which seemed very un-lojbanic to me. Like you said, similar to {jai} it seems to have two uses that are completely un-related (moreso with {bo} than with {jai} I think).
