If you feel sorry for t= he trees, yes. But if it's the falling you feel
sorry for, i.e. if you feel that it is bad for the falling that nobody
hears it, because then some people might claim it didn't make any
noise, and surely that's bad for its status, then I would put the
event in x2.

It might be a good idea to re= strict the x2 to objects in the definition. Speakers will put any sumti the= y like in there with creative/poetical license.
