For "Dejah Thoris" I suppose the original name is actually a single word, something like {deja'oris}, which the English speaker heard pronounced with the "th" variant of {'} and interpreted as two words. But I can't think of any Barsoomian/Lojbanic name that would explain how the "th" in "Jarl Thon" came about, because {'} can only occur in Barsoomian/Lojban between vowels, and for any other Barsoomian/Lojbanic phoneme there would seem to be something better than "th" in English.
