Also, a cmevla requires a pause if it begins with a vowel: {lai .alp. ma'arlinsi}. So does any other word beginning with a vowel. If a word which must be followed by a pause is followed by a word that must be preceded by a pause, I write only one pause: {lai .alp. e lai .andes. ma'arlinsi .i la saras .odbenu}. Which one is arbitrary. > A pause is needed after the first delimiter, and before the second. There's > another one after the second *gy.* because it is a letter-word. If a > non-letter-word was used then it won't be needed: "zoi zoi. something .zoi" Thus {zoi zoi. borzoi .zoi} is a valid quotation. About {zoi ly. Lythraceae .ly.}, I'm not so sure. The reason for requiring the pause after Cy (it's not required after {tei} and other words in BY that don't end in "y") is that, without it, a phrase such as {le my moi} sounds like a lujvo. If the Cy is followed by a CV cmavo, and the pause is moved after the CV, the pause still prevents it from being taken as a lujvo. So I say {le kybu. moi}. Pierre
