After all, see it as some evolutionary process, it seems that ambiguity in natural language *was* beneficial to it. Unless we are all Misters Spock here, it is very likely you already noticed that verbal ambiguity is a boon, at least in some situations : some well designed sentence can be as a rock that hits two or three goals at the same time, and it also allows us to imply meaning to somebody else without being too direct or even, offensive.
