The word is from Latin from Ancient Greek and exists in all of the source languages except Chinese (in which the word is "mein" or "mian" depending on how you transliterate the dialects). I've seen it used in Portuguese for a small briefcase, and the primary meaning in Russian is "paste" (which is likewise from Latin "pasta"), but it is also used for "pasta" in Russian.
