  The problem is that lojban is/tends to be (to use a computer term)
"strongly typed".  That is to say, only certain classes of sumti are
meaningfully allowed in certain bridi slots (although others may be
grammatically allowed).  So, in particular, things that you cusku are
basically literal strings, text.  This is accomplished by a construct such
as "cusku lo se du'u kecti" which literally means "said that thing which
expressed (that they were feeling) pity")  I offered the other as an
alternative.
