Where does it demonstrate that in the text? Here's a modest suggestion for their name -- macyckin(i) . Calls to mind the falvor of the original, while having a relevant meaning, for surely Dorothy marvels at their appearance (and they are in turned awed by her). I see you have kept the original Denslow illustrations, even those that have drop words and letters, which obviously don't jibe with the lojban. I'm curious. Did the German edition do that as well? --gejyspa On Wed, Dec 25, 2013 at 7:01 AM, selpa'i wrote: > la .pier. cu cusku di'e > >> Got a question: Why "maxpre"? that those are Munchkins.

Well, "munch" as in "chew", which is {marxa}. I didn= 9;t want to just transcribe the word directly. In the German translation th= ey also have a name that is very close to one that would mean "Chewers= ". And the Munchkins always move their jaws around as if they were che= wing.

The name might have a different origin according to this Wikipedia article[= 1], and it's hard to tell what's really true.

I might turn it into a zi'evla if a good one presents itself.
