The example I've always heard in the context of linguistics for weird
grouping is "January water cooler cover replacement screw shipment".

My guess for why left-grouping is that it doesn't end up mattering much, so
pick something. It also might be easier to special case the right grouping
than to special case left grouping (when speaking and reading).
