Well, a glottal stop is a consonant, and a pause is a pause. =E2=80=9CWhat =

In general this dot appears before letters which would be capitalized (sent=
ence-initial .i) or surrounding loanwords (.dorotis.) which would be capita=
lized as well. I=E2=80=99d suggest that the capitalization would be enough =
of a reminder (and the reminder is described as =E2=80=9Coptional=E2=80=9D =
anyway though the stop or pause is not).
