Neither "wire" nor "wiry" has [r], which is not common in English.=20
Phonemically "wire" has one syllable, /wai=C9=B9/, but phonetically it has =
two,=20
similar to the Hebrew patach gnuvah.

In Lojban, I usually pronounce <r> as [r] or [=C9=BE]. Unlike Spanish, ther=
e is no=20
distinction between these two between vowels in Lojban, and I normally say=
=20
[=C9=BE]. I use the syllabic version of [=C9=B9] when the <r> is syllabic, =
except next=20
to <x> (at least in <xrx>). If you're using [=C9=B9] for Lojban <r>, try [r=
] or [=C9=BE]=20
instead.
