Behind this lies a fundamental difference in understanding of what lujvo ar=
e and how they work. Lujvo are vocabulary. A competent speaker of Lojban is=
 supposed to know them, not to decode them on the fly. Of course most vocab=
ulary in any language is 'motivated', ie, related to other existing vocabul=
ary in one (language-specific) way or the other. (You wouldn't want all new=
 words to created out of thin air=E2=80=93such things do happen, but rarely=
.) And there are indeed parts of the language like, eg, '-gau' or '-bi'o', =
that in practice work pretty much like derivational suffixes, so, as often,=
 things are not perfectly clear-cut.* But basically, we're supposed to know=
 our lujvo the same way we're supposed to know our gismu.

(Nothing of this is new.)

* A thorough  'mainstream' linguistic analysis of Lojban would be a fun thi=
ng to read, but I'm under no illusions of such a thing happening any time s=
oon.
