There are basically two systems used across languages: planetary and numerical. Numerical would be the natural choice for Lojban if there was agreement as to where to start counting, but some languages start with Monday, some with Sunday, some with Saturday. So using a numerical system makes it easy for speakers of some languages, neutral for speakers of languages that use the planetary system, and very confusing for speakers with a shifted system. The panetary system takes slightly more effort to learn for everybody, but it should not be confusing for anybody. lurdei - Moon day fagdei - fire(-planet) (Mars) day jaurdei - water(-planet) (Mercury) day mudydei - wood(-planet) (Jupiter) day jimdei -metal(-planet) (Venus) day derdei - earth(-planet) (Saturn) day soldei - Sun day In there is a nice table showing which languages use which system. mu'o mi'e xorxes To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to lojban-list-request@lojban.org with the subject unsubscribe, or go to http://www.lojban.org/lsg2/, or if you're really stuck, send mail to secretary@lojban.org for help.
