In the spirit of the one-run Hour of Babble podcast [1], I'm now announcing that the Language Creation Society (LCS) will be taking up the mantle for a conlangers' podcast. The show will be simple in format: an interview with a conlanger about their work, interspersed with as much conlang-related music, poetry, or other audio as we can get our hands on. In keeping with the LCS' mission, we actively encourage all kinds of conlangers (aux, art, enge, or otherwise) to participate, as well as anyone doing research, game design, or the like that incorporates created languages. The lingua franca of our podcast interviews will be English, but we encourage non-English-fluent people to be interviewed also. (We'll just have to find someone to interview & translate who speaks it also...) We also would like to encourage discussion *in* conlangs. If you are interested, please email us. Some material may be more suitable for a separate track of podcasts (e.g. general discussion or news that simply happens to be in a particular conlang); other material may be more suitable for the main conlang-topical track. WANT TO TALK ABOUT YOUR CONLANG(S) OR CONLANGING? Please email us with times which would be convenient for you to have a conversation; languages spoken & fluency therein; Skype s/n (if available) & landline phone number; city, state & country; and some brief background / links so that the interviewer can read up on what you've done and thus ask more interesting questions. Don't worry - we'll email you beforehand to let you know what we'd like you to be ready to say in your conlang(s) or particular bits we'll delve into more detail on, so we don't put you on the spot. ;-) WANT TO SHARE YOUR MUSIC / POETRY? Please email us w/ the material (or links to it) and explanation of what's in it and how it should be credited. You keep ownership of course, but we request unlimited rights to (re)use the work (so that our podcasts or other future media, such as DVDs, can be produced without legal issues). If you have any particular concerns or restrictions on how you'd like your media used, we're always happy to work with you to meet your needs. If you can provide an English translation (preferably in the same voice) as well, that would be quite helpful. If you have a name any more complicated than 'John' or 'David', please include an explanation for how to pronounce it (X-SAMPA preferred). One particular case: we need intro / outro music! Any good music that you personally made will be considered, and of course all music used will be credited by name & URL. WANT TO BE AN INTERVIEWER OR TRANSLATOR? Please email us w/ your particular areas of interest and fluently spoken languages (nat & con). WANT TO HELP EDIT? If you know how to use multi-track editing software to turn raw audio into well-stitched-together audio gems, email us! WHAT'S COMING UP? Among the first podcasts, already recorded but not yet edited, will be extended interviews with Sally Caves, John Clifford, Matt Pearson, David Peterson, and Sylvia Sotomayor. My anticipated release schedule is 1 every 2 weeks until we're confident enough that we can sustain a faster release cycle. This of course depends entirely on submissions & interviewees - i.e. you - to help keep it going. So please, join in, and share your conlanging voice! - Sai P.S. Please consider this 'for wide distribution' - i.e. forward to anyone you think would be interested. Thanks!
