Perhaps we can consider events and objects parallel to perfective and imperfective verbs. "Perfective" nouns emphasize the time duration, and thus signify events. "Imperfective" nouns leave the time frame open-ended, and thus signify objects. The word "fire" is an imperfective object, the word "flare-up" is a perfective event.
