I'm just starting to learn Lojban, and I thought that since there might be a lot of other people on the list who are just starting out too, some translation practice might be fun. I am going to be posting a few sentences every day or so to the list for translation practice. These sentences will include Lojban sentences (which I may or may not have done correctly!) and English sentences to be translated into Lojban (which I may or may not know how to translate myself). Comparing our answers might help us learn faster; just post your answers to the list. I'm expecting that some mistakes will be made, but hopefully the more experienced folks on the list will help us straighten things out. If anyone else would like to post exercises to the list, I would encourage you to do so. Without further ado: 1-1. Translate into Lojban: a. The dog is man's best friend. b. What time is it? c. The weather is hot. d. Amethyst is a valuable stone. e. Turn the screw to the left. 1-2. Translate into English: a. ta cu bulji nazbi ko'a b. le tergu'i ku cu navni c. la makdonaldz. cu gusta le festi ku d. ti cu muzga la cakla ku e. doi marca. .i me do cu prami pitr. curman. plschuerman@ucdavis.edu
