Unfortunately, commercial vendors have created a lot of *desinformation* 
about ASCII. ASCII is at last standardised, and there are now 7-bit ASCII 
(what you all know) and 8 bit ASCII which is identical to ISO-Latin-1. 
Everything else is *not ASCII*.
