Maybe it isn't quite so easy, but 'immediately' has got nothing to do with it. I've got daily backups going back to this time last year. (Of course, if you want to go really far back, you have to deal with unified diffs, but the data is there.) As an unrelated aside, jbovlaste's wiki can actually retain every version of every page (in every language) in the SQL database, and transparently compress old versions.
