People need to know that Dulles is around 16 miles from my house and is not near the Metro. Since some people will be staying at my house in addition to those at the hotel, distance is relevant. (These others are also not on Metro but are a relatively short bus or cab ride from a Metro station, for people flying in to National Airport, or taking the train). The areas to be looking at are Tysons Corner, Falls Church, Fairfax, and Fair Oaks. Fair Lakes is slightly further, ~8 miles but all freeway. There is a Marriott Courtyard two exits from my house in Fairfax City, (~4 miles) http://www.marriott.com/dpp/PropertyPage.asp?MarshaCode=IADFO&EPCEC=InProcess&EPNAVCEC=InProcess and another Marriott in Falls Church (my daughter has friends who work there, since it is next to her high school, if that helps) These and other hotels near them are the closest major chains to my house. Here is a page with Falls Church listings and reviews that includes the Marriott (4 miles) http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g57722-Falls_Church_Virginia-Hotels.html Here is Fairfax City (4-8 miles) http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g57718-Fairfax_Virginia-Vacations.html The following lists hotels in Tyson's Corner (5-7 miles) http://www.tripadvisor.com/Search?returnTo=__2F__&q=tyson%27s+corner&geo=1&submit.x=20&submit.y=8 Of these, Tyson's has the widest range of restaurants and shopping, with Fair Oaks a close second for shopping but sprawls over a larger area and has fewer restaurants per square mile. Falls Church is relatively near an ethnic community and most of the non-hotel restaurants nearby are strip-mall Vietnamese and other Asian (there are a lot of them). Tysons is crowded and can have traffic, and is likely to be more expensive. lojbab -- lojbab lojbab@lojban.org Bob LeChevalier, President, The Logical Language Group, Inc. 2904 Beau Lane, Fairfax VA 22031-1303 USA 703-385-0273 Artificial language Loglan/Lojban: http://www.lojban.org
