I find an -efs pronunciation distasteful, partly because of the inevitable cultural cringe, but partly because this is purely a spelling pronunciation in Greek: as soon as it looked like -eus was going to change to -efs, the nouns ending in -eus switched declensions, ending up as -eas and then -yas. (So basileus > vasilyas.) -efs is ahistorical --- and given how hard it is to pronounce, it's no wonder; I certainly wouldn't want it enshrined in Lojban. A word-for-word, btw: The rage sing, goddess, of son-of-Peleus Achilles, destructive [rage], which to a myriad Achaeans pain placed, many also stout souls to Hades sent-early of heroes [the souls], but themselves [the heroes] booty prepared to dogs to birds of prey as well all of them [the birds], but Zeus' will was being completed; [you should sing] from where at first stood apart disputing both the son-of-Atreus king of men and divine Achilles. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^ Dr Nick Nicholas.
