As the official line goes, we cannot tell what each component modifies unless we are told -- but we can sometimes guess. In this case "small" modifies "cold" not whatever it is that "cold" modifies, so my comment about {cma} was apt after all, since you guessed wrong (as a relatively good literalist should have). Come to that, "small cold thing" or at least {cmalu lenku} is ambiguous in just the corresponding ways. I have mentioned, I hope, that -- while I cannot do them -- I favor interesting, metaphorical, compounds over boring literal ones. Part of the joke was how pitiful this effort was since -- I thought -- likely to be totally transparent.
