Ordinary lujvo making rules don't seem to give anything very useful for {banta'a}. {bangu je tavla} ("is a language and talks") and {tavla be lo bangu} ("talks to a language") are very unlikely. {tavla be fo lo bangu} ("talks in language language") is redundant, so the least unlikely would be {tavla be fi lo bangu} ("talks about languages"). I don't know if talking about languages really calls for a special word. The intended meaning for {banta'a} in that passage however is obviously "x1 speaks language x2". Perhaps this could be a useful rule paradigm: the modifier selects and brings forward one of the places of the modified, and the rest of the places get eliminated. Other lujvo that would fit this paradigm could be: ma'ekla: "x1 travels/rides on vehicle x2" majbo'i: "x1 is a bottle of material x2" tcici'a: "x1 writes with x2" krafle: "x1 flows/springs from x2" lutmu'u: "x1 moves over path x2" etc. mu'o mi'e xorxes To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to lojban-list-request@lojban.org with the subject unsubscribe, or go to http://www.lojban.org/lsg2/, or if you're really stuck, send mail to secretary@lojban.org for help.
