You need {loi} or {lei} only when the at least two things act as a mass -- a couple of apples dropping to the ground at the same time at the same place counts as a mass, for example. {loi su'o re plise cu farlu} Although in most of the cases the lack of this {su'o re} doesn't lead to ambiguity.
